  • In response to the challenges facing rural healthcare, the Board of Managers announced on June 10, 2025 that they would begin a formal process to explore a strategic partnership with a larger health system.

  • Currently the Board of Managers and Executive Leadership Team are accepting proposals for partnerships and will determine which partner(s) fit best with the mission and values of TRMC with a commitment to rural healthcare and specifically our community.

  • TRMC Leadership is continuing to improve the financial performance of the organization, as well as adding additional specialty services such as Spine Care and Pulmonary Care to ensure the needs of our community are met and to build a base from which the partnership can ensure care options in our community continue to meet the needs of the people who trust us with their care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Setting the Record Straight

Titus Regional Medical Center has fielded many questions from the community. Below, you will find a collection of responses that may be of interest or details on topics you may have heard about regarding our potential partnership.

What You May Have Heard:

There’s no transparency.

FACT:
Titus Regional Medical Center’s monthly Board, Finance Committee and Patient Quality Safety committee are open to the public. All meeting agendas and minutes are posted on the hospital’s website, along with monthly audited financials, budgets and a strategic plan. We regularly share updates on our Facebook page, including sharing meeting dates in advance, and will maintain a dedicated webpage outlining our exploration process. Information has been shared via social media, community newspapers, board presentations and community group presentations as well.

What You May Have Heard:

TRMC’s leadership and board are mismanaging everything, just replace them!

FACT: TRMC’s leadership and Board have been actively working to strengthen the hospital, not mismanage it. Despite the tough financial climate facing rural hospitals across the country, we have increased patient volumes, reduced operating expenses, and improved productivity. We have also expanded our medical staff to better meet the needs of our growing community. These efforts reflect strong, proactive leadership responding to industry-wide challenges like low reimbursement rates and rising healthcare cost, not mismanagement.

What You May Have Heard:

This is the beginning of losing local control over our healthcare.

FACT:
We understand this concern. Protecting local access and values is exactly why we are being careful and deliberate in this process. TRMC’s Board of Managers, made up of local community members, will continue to guide every step of the decision. Our goal is to ensure as best we can, that the selected partner will respect the needs of our community voice and will work with us to strengthen care here at home.

Any partnership will be built around preserving what matters most: trusted relationships, local jobs, and services our patients count on. This isn’t about giving up our identity, it is about ensuring it lasts.

What You May Have Heard:

We will end up having to travel to Dallas or Tyler for everything.

FACT:  TRMC works daily with many larger health systems throughout Dallas and northeast Texas, either through consultations with specialists not present at TRMC or through transfers of patients TO other facilities. A rural health system can not on their own, provide ALL needed medical services within the community and a stronger partnership with a larger health system should make ongoing access to specialty care more seamless.  Our goal is to protect and strengthen access to care right here at home. We want to ensure that services like emergency care, surgery, and primary care remain local, and that we can even expand specialty services over time.

This is about building a stronger future for local healthcare, a future with a partner that can assist in providing the ongoing investment needed to ensure essential local health care services continue to be provided in this community

From Our Leadership

As CEO of OUR independent hospital, I want to share why strategic partnerships are essential for our future—both to support our mission and to ensure continued high-quality care for our community.

The healthcare landscape is changing rapidly, placing significant pressure on independent health systems. Rising costs, regulatory complexity, workforce shortages, technology requirements, and shifts to value-based payment mean going it alone is harder than ever for smaller, community-focused organizations.

Strategic partnerships offer a path to address these challenges. Success depends on selecting the partner that aligns with our culture, goals, and commitment to our patients. Each partnership will be evaluated carefully to ensure it strengthens—not dilutes—our core mission of serving this community. By collaborating wisely, we can continue to deliver excellent, accessible care right here at home, no matter how complex the healthcare environment becomes.

I remain committed to communicating openly with you as we explore opportunities to ensure TRMC endures as a trusted community resource for generations to come.

Our Hospital

Having reliable, accessible healthcare in our community is essential and we know that change can feel unsettling. But change is sometimes necessary to adapt, grow, and build a stronger future.

Through it all, our commitment to our mission remains the same—to lead the transformation for healthier tomorrows in the communities we serve.
