MONTH OF FEBRUARY

Rosa E. Cuenca, MD, FACS
Surgical Oncologist
Dr.Cuenca is the medical director of the Breast & Diagnostic Health Center at Titus Regional Medical Center. In addition to her expertise in the arena of breast cancer treatment options, she also treats other disease conditions such as melanoma and disorders of the parathyroid system. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACOS) and has served the organization in a variety of roles. Her education and training, professional qualifications and surgical competence has made her a distinguished leader and exceeds the high standards established and demanded by the ACOS. Her presentation, Cryoablation Treatment in Cutaneous Malignancies, is of special interest to the surgical community. Dr. Cuenca has performed many of the world’s first treatment modalities in this rapidly advancing field. She states “we are very excited about using this new exciting modality in the treatment of complex skin malignancies and the great impact cryoablation is having on how surgeons address these issues. The ultimate goal is to increase the number of lives we save.” Her practice, Northeast Texas Oncologic & Reconstructive Surgery, PA has experienced great success in the treatment of cutaneous malignancies, including melanomas and other skin cancer.
Recently Dr. Cuenca was bestowed the honor of being named as the featured hallmark speaker at the American College of Surgeons North Texas Chapter Annual Meeting. This distinguished program was held February 12th-13th in Dallas, Texas. The ACOS is a scientific and educational association of surgeons whose primary goal is to improve the quality of clinical care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice. The ACOS is the largest organization of surgeons in the world and the annual programs feature a highly distinguished lecture panel, filling the event with cutting-edge material and panel discussions that influence the advancements in the respective fields.
Dr. Cuenca is the proud mother of Gordon, Jr. and Nellie, ages 11 & 8, and enjoys a true working relationship with her husband Gordon Downie, Sr., MD, PhD, an Interventional Pulmonologist at TRMC. She enjoys reading, gardening, cooking, and beading jewelry when she is not seeing patients at her medical practice.
MONTH OF MARCH

Clinton Twaddell, MD
General Surgery
Dr.Twaddell, Board Certified Surgeon, has been with TRMC since July of 1993. He graduated from medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern in 1988, thus fulfilling his life long dream of becoming a surgeon. His internship and residency was completed at St. Paul in Dallas, Texas. He has served on numerous Medical Staff Committees. He also served as Chief of Staff for TRMC in 1998 and 1999.
Prior to becoming a surgeon, Dr. Twaddell was a CPA. He was born in Waco, Texas and is married to his childhood sweetheart Martha, whom he met in 7th grade. They have been married for 26 years and have 3 sons. The oldest, Clinton, is graduating from law school in Austin this year. Mark is graduating from Baylor in May and their youngest, Robert is a junior at Mount Pleasant High School.
In September of 2009, Dr. Twaddell added to his surgical practice laparoscopic gastric banding. He and his staff are very excited to offer this new surgical weight loss option.

MONTH OF MAY

Steven J. Cliffford, MD
Radiology
Dr.Steven J. Clifford, became a member of the TRMC family in October 2009, when RRVR became our new Radiology Group. Dr. Steve resides in Paris. After completing his residency in 1985, he returned to Paris to practice medicine as a radiologist with his father, James Clifford MD and his brother, Dr. Phil Clifford. Dr. Steve performs diagnostic mammographies on each Tuesday and reads the screening mammograms the rest of the week.
He is such a wonderful addition to our staff, due to his expertise in his field and his passion for women’s health. He has close family members that he has had to diagnose with breast cancer; this gives him great passion for his work, passion and understanding.
For what both the patient and her family is facing. Dr. Steve is still a resident of Paris, where he and his high school sweetheart have raised their 4 children. His youngest son is a senior at Paris High, graduating Valedictorian of his class. His only daughter is attending Emery, and will continue on to Medical School, one son graduated from MIT and is an engineer and the other son is graduating from TCU and will continue on to Medical School.
He and his wife are very involved with their children and their activities. In his spare time he also enjoys restoring vintage pinball machines.
MONTH OF JUNE

Cynthia Brown, MD
Internal Medicine
Dr. Cynthia Brown, is an Internal Medicine physician dedicated to the Northeast Texas community. Originally from New York City, she attended Downstate Medical College in Brooklyn, New York. Her internal medicine training was completed in Rhode Island at Brown University. She continued her medical education at one of the nation’s top five Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship programs at the prestigious Duke University. Previously, she was on faculty at the Brody School of Medicine, Eastern Carolina University. Dr. Brown also has an undergraduate degree in biology (St. John’s University), a masters in information technology (St. John’s University) and a masters degree in molecular biology (Montclair State University). Dr. Brown advocates a patient’s active participation in their health care management.
Dr. Brown was professionally influenced by her childhood family practitioner, Dr. Joseph Dixon. She admired his love of medicine, confidence, wisdom and strength.
Her patients rave about what a caring physician she is. “Dr. Brown really takes the time to listen to me. She always makes you feel as if you are the only person she has scheduled that day. I also was very impressed by how knowledgeable that she is.” “My grandfather can be very obstinate and she has the perfect personality for handling patients like him. She makes you understand that there is a difference between being stubborn and being stupid, and makes you want to do what is in your health’s best interest.” “Very down-to-earth and likeable”.
She is also a jazz aficionado. She has had the privilege of meeting some of the greatest jazz musicians and singers of our time. Though she is shy to admit, Dr. Brown plays the clarinet quite well.
MONTH OF JULY

Billy J. Parkhill, MD
Radiology
Dr. Billy J. Parkhill received his Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State University, where he graduated with honors. Dr. Parkhill received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Johns Hopkins University and did his postdoctoral work at the University of California at Berkley. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Parkhill served his radiology residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas where he was Chief Radiology Resident from 1980 to 1981.
He has been board certified by the American Board of Radiology since 1982. Dr. Parkhill is married and has four children.
In his spare time he enjoys playing golf, working in the yard and building Martin houses (bird houses). He and his wife Gail enjoy traveling and spending time with their family pets.
